Blackrock is nestled on the coast around 9km south of Dublin city centre. It is a charming suburb with a vibrant and busy village centre and shopping centres. Named after the local geological rock formation found around Blackrock Park, it covers a large area and is bordered by Booterstown, Mount Merrion, Stillorgan, Foxrock, Deansgrange and Monkstown. Over the years, it has evolved into one of Dublin’s most desirable residential areas, offering a wonderful blend of coastal village living with the convenience of urban amenities.

Blackrock offers a vibrant village centre as well as two recently redeveloped shopping centres giving a wonderful combination of artisan, independent and high street brands including M&S, Pamela Scott, and Diffneys. With art and suppliers, booksellers, shoe shops and jewellers, there is little reason to go elsewhere.

Blackrock Park is a must for a walk and offers stunning views over Dublin Bay and a children’s playground. You can picnic in the park or stroll over for morning coffee in the Bear Market or Hatch Coffee on the Main Street. There is also Guy’s Coffee in the Blackrock Market, which is always worth a visit, hosting over 25 artisan stall holders.

For a light brunch or lunch, there is a wide choice including Ciamei in the market, The Vanilla Pod Eatery in the Blackrock Shopping Centre or cross over to The Natural Bakery in the Frascati Shopping Centre. Evening dining options a range of global delights including Musashi, Daata, and Camille as well as more traditional fare at the Laurel Restaurant. There is a choice of takeaways too, so really something for every palette and occasion.

Sport & Recreation

Blackrock offers a vast range of recreational activities whether you prefer to be on land or on water and regardless of age or fitness. The parks and coastline offer wonderful casual recreational options and sports clubs include Blackrock College RFC, Blackrock Bowling & Tennis Club, Granada Football Club, Trojan Swim Club as well as a choice of gyms, yoga and pilates classes.

Childcare & Education

Education is a cornerstone of Blackrock's appeal with a choice of esteemed primary and secondary schools. These include All Saint’s National School, Guardian Angels NS and Carysfort NS. For secondary education options include Blackrock College, St. Andrews and Newpark Comprehensive. Further education is offered in the Blackrock Further Education Institute (BFEI). There are also multiple creches and Montessori schools including the renowned St. Nicholas Montessori School.

Transport

On the Dart line that runs along the coast, Blackrock is exceptionally well-connected in terms of public transport being only 15 minutes from the city centre by train. There are also multiple bus routes, providing transport links in all directions across the city. The area is serviced by the regular Air Coach service for Dublin airport and has a network of cycle pathways.
